The BC Hockey Coaching programs are designed to provide coaches with the tools necessary to improve athlete development. Whether its certification programs, online learning, specialty clinics, mentorship or high performance, ultimately the goal is to provide the player with the best possible experience. Coaches are encouraged to continually hone and build on their current skills by taking a BC Hockey / National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) course.

As stated on the Coaches Association of Canada website:

"By learning how to become a coach, you can provide a positive experience for others and for yourself. Coaches represent many different roles to many different people. Coaches are viewed as teachers, mentors, role models, friends, and as leaders in the community in which they become involved. Coaches that contribute to the community have an enormous effect on the development of our youth and participate in a great learning experience.

"Good coaching is fundamental to community sport. By becoming a valued member of the community, good coaches can share the positive aspects of an active lifestyle. The role of a coach allows you to teach things such as teamwork, character building, and the fundamental skills of the sport to participants who are eager to learn.

"Coaches can help to train any type of participant, from beginners to Olympians, and everyone in between."

To become a coach within your local minor hockey association, BC Hockey requires that all member coaches meet the minimum qualifications.  Please refer to the BC Hockey Course Optionsto review the clinic that’s right for you!

In addition to obtaining your coach qualifications, please note that it is required all BC Hockey coaches complete a Speak Out! seminar.
