BC Hockey announced December 14, 2011 that Mackenzie Wong (Surrey, BC) has been named the Female Midget AAA player of the month for November. Wong led the Fraser Valley Phantom in points for November with one (1) goal and five (5) assists.
“Mackenzie has done a great job transitioning from defence to forward,” said the Phantom’s Head Coach Dean Reed. “She has continued to improve week to week and currently leads the team in points.”
The Phantom are currently undefeated with a 12-0 record, which puts them in first place within the FMAAA standings. With 64 goals for and only 10 against, the Phantom are a hot team to beat this season. Wong is an integral part of the Phantoms hot season as she leads the FMAAA league with 23 points (eight (8) goals and 15 assists).
Wong was chosen from a high calibre list of other nominees. The runners up in no particular order are as follows:
- Kootenay Wildcats – Shea Weighill
- Vancouver Fusion – Brittany Wakefield
- Thompson-Okanagan Rockets – Maggie Shykula-Ross
- Prince George Cougars – Kelly Shawara
The Female Midget AAA League was initiated in the 2007-2008 season in response to the membership’s desire to provide an opportunity for elite female hockey players to come together on zone teams to challenge other elite Female Midget teams.
