Female Midget AAA League Schedule Announced

Wednesday, September 09, 2015

BC Hockey announced Wednesday, September 9, 2015 the schedule for the 2015-2016 BC Female Midget AAA League (FMAAA) regular season.  The season officially launches on October 2, 2015 with a Showcase Weekend at the Surrey Leisure Centre in Surrey, BC.

2015 – 2016 FMAAA Schedule

The season concludes on February 21, 2016 with the playoff battle for the BC FMAAA Championship beginning on February 26, 2016 and the final championship starting on March 18, 2016.  The Pacific Regional Championship will be hosted in BC from April 1 – 3, 2016, where the BC FMAAA Champion will take on the Alberta Female Midget AAA Champion to determine the Pacific Representative at the ESSO Cup. The 2016 Female Midget ESSO Cup will take place April 19-25, 2016 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan.

The Northern Cougars captured the 2015 FMAAA title with a best of three (3) series win over the Fraser Valley Phantom.  The Cougars faced the Edmonton Thunder in the regional championship where they fell short in the series to advance to the ESSO Cup.

This season, BC Hockey is responsible for overseeing teams and registering players, and the program received a makeover thanks to an agreement with Easton.  The teams are still zone-based, but have been renamed to represent the region of each team.  The six (6) teams are:

  • Fraser Valley Rush

  • Greater Vancouver Comets

  • Kootenay Wild

  • Northern Capitals

  • Thompson-Okanagan Lakers

  • Vancouver Island Seals

The FMAAA was initiated in the 2007-2008 season in response to the membership’s desire to provide an opportunity for elite female hockey players to come together on zone teams to challenge other elite female Midget teams. The league has had nearly 100 players move on to post-secondary hockey opportunities.
