BC Hockey announced that Kaitlyn Daly of the Kootenay Wild has been the Female Midget AAA (FMAAA) Player of the Month for February 2017. The 5’6” goaltender from Coquitlam, BC had a 3-2-0 record and 1.27 goals against average (GAA) last month.
Daly’s Kootenay Wild squad finished fourth in the League standings this season with a 10-14-6 record. Daly appeared in net 21 times and recorded six (6) wins, nine (9) losses, and three (3) ties with a 2.39 GAA.
Said Wild Head Coach Cary Fisher, “Playing the number two (2) team in the league, Kaitlyn had back-to-back shutouts. Her focus and her compete level has increased as we move toward the playoffs.”
Aside from her duties in the crease, Daly also serves as a minor hockey referee. During a recent off weekend for the Wild, Daly officiated eight (8) games over two (2) days during a tournament in Trail.
The FMAAA program consists of six (6) zone-based teams across the province – the Fraser Valley Rush, Greater Vancouver Comets, Kootenay Wild, Northern Capitals, Thompson-Okanagan Lakers, and Vancouver Island Seals. The teams play a 30 game regular season, followed by the playoffs. The FMAAA Champion has the opportunity to compete for the ESSO Cup, Hockey Canada's National Female Midget Championship, which will take place in Morden, Manitoba from April 23 - 29, 2017.
The FMAAA program was initiated in the 2007-2008 season in response to the membership’s desire to provide an opportunity for elite female hockey players to come together on zone teams to challenge other elite female Midget teams. The league has had more than 100 players move on to post-secondary hockey opportunities.
