Greater Vancouver Defeated in Female Pacific Regional Midget Championship

Saturday, April 01, 2017

The BC Female Midget AAA Champion (BCFMAAA) Greater Vancouver Comets fell in two (2) games to the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League (AMMFHL) champion St. Albert Slash in the  2017 Female Pacific Regional Championship in St. Albert.

The Comets lost game one (1) 2-0, and fell 3-2 in game two (2). Scoring for the Comets were Natalie Dolhanty (Coquitlam) and Jenna Buglioni (Port Moody). Despite the losses, the Comets had a great season, finishing with an overall record of 33-3.

The Slash will move on to the ESSO Cup, Hockey Canada's National Female Midget Championship, which will take place in Morden, Manitoba from April 23 - 29, 2016.

The FMAAA program consists of six (6) zone-based teams that are spread across the province – the Fraser Valley Rush (Langley), Greater Vancouver Comets (Coquitlam), Kootenay Wild (Trail), Northern Capitals (Prince George), Thompson-Okanagan Lakers (Vernon), and Vancouver Island Seals (Campbell River). The teams play a 30 game regular season, followed by the playoffs.

The FMAAA program was initiated in the 2007-2008 season in response to the membership’s desire to provide an opportunity for elite female hockey players to come together on zone teams to challenge other elite female Midget teams. The league has had nearly 100 players move on to post-secondary hockey opportunities.
