Female Midget AAA Set for Third Weekend of League Play

The BC Hockey Female Midget AAA League is entering the third weekend of play.  100 Mile House will play host to the Female Midget AAA League with games being played November 13-15.
 
The Female Midget AAA league has a unique format for the 2009-10 season. Each team will host a league play weekend whereby all the teams come together, similar to a tournament, at the same place one weekend a month to play multiple league games against the other teams. This has been a measure adopted by the league to maximize playing time and to reduce travel and accommodation expense.
 
The following will provide an update from the second weekend of league play.
 
The Vancouver Fusion took on the Fraser Valley Phantom in the first game of the weekend. After two (2) scoreless periods of hockey the Fusion’s Alex Yallouz scored early in the third period. The Fusion’s goalie Cassidy Hendricks stopped all shots that came her way helping her team win 2-0. The second game of the day pitted the Thompson-Okanagan Rockets against the Kootenay Wildcats. The Rockets scored early and often taking a 4-1 lead into the first intermission. The Rockets continued their scoring prowess finishing the game up 9-1. Monique Viens finished the game with two (2) goals and two (2) assists.
 
The first game on Saturday morning was a classic between the Fraser Valley Phantom and the Prince George Cougars. With the game tied at five (5) late in the third period the Phantom’s Kristyn Zoschke scored to give her team the 6-5 win. The second game of the day pitted the Thompson-Okanagan Rockets against the Vancouver Fusion. The Fusion jumped out to the first period lead. The Rockets battled back in the second period and the game was tied 2-2 heading into the second intermission. After exchanging goals in the third period, with 4:39 left in the game the Fusion’s Haneet Parhar scored the game winning goal. The third game turned into a high scoring affair between the Vancouver Island Impact and the Kootenay Wildcats. The game ended in a 7-7 draw. The Impact’s Aylssa Andres finished with four (4) goals and the Wildcat’s Lindsay Audia finished with a hat trick.
 
In afternoon action on the Saturday the Thompson-Okanagan Rockets took on the Prince George Cougars. The Rockets opened the game in the second period with four (4) goals to take a 5-1 lead into the second intermission. The game ended 7-1 in favour of the Rockets. The final game of the day had the Fraser Valley Phantom taking on the Vancouver Island Impact. After two (2) scoreless periods of hockey the Impact were first on the board early in the third. The Rockets battled back and scored two (2) goals in the final minutes of the game to pick up the 2-1 win.
 
The first game on the final day of action had the Prince George Cougars taking on the Vancouver Island Impact. The first period ended 2-2 and at 13:32 of the second the Cougar’s Robyn Murphy scored to give her team the 3-2 lead. The Cougars added one (1) more in the third to pick up the 4-2 win. The Cougar’s Kendra Young had a great game finishing with three (3) assists. The final game of the weekend had the Vancouver Fusion battling the Kootenay Wildcats. The Wildcats held the early the 2-1 lead. The Fusion battled hard in the second and third period to pick up the 5-3 win. The Fusion had balanced scoring with all five (5) goals scored by a different person.

The Female Midget AAA League was initiated in the 2007-2008 season in response to the membership’s desire to provide an opportunity for elite female hockey players to come together on zone teams to challenge other elite Female Midget teams.
