BC Hockey announced March 9, 2010 that Julia McKinnon (Kelowna, BC) of the Thompson-Okanagan Rockets has been named the Female Midget AAA player of the month for February. McKinnon had a great month finishing with three (3) goals, one (1) assist and an impressive plus six (6) rating.
“Her high level of skill and effort shows up in practice and games alike, making her own of our most consistent athletes,” said Thompson-Okanagan Rockets head coach Sylvain Leone. “She wants to get better every day and is very coachable.”
McKinnon was chosen from a high calibre list of other nominees. The runners up in no particular order are as follows:
- Kootenay Wildcats – Aimee Dibella
- Vancouver Fusion – Brittany Laing
- Fraser Valley Phantom – Kelsey Firkus
- Prince George Cougars – Bethany Roy
- Vancouver Island Impact – Emily Heavenor
The Female Midget AAA League was initiated in the 2007-2008 season in response to the membership’s desire to provide an opportunity for elite female hockey players to come together on zone teams to challenge other elite Female Midget teams.
