BC Hockey announced that Ashlynn Neurauter of the Thompson-Okanagan Lakers has been named the Female Midget AAA (FMAAA) Player of the Month for January 2017. The 5’7” goaltender from Kamloops, BC recorded a pair of victories with a 0.50 goals against average (GAA) last month.
In her first FMAAA season, Neurauter has a 3-1-3 record with a 1.64 GAA. Her team currently sits second in the league standings with a 10-7-7 record through 24 games.
Said Lakers Head Coach Sylvain Leone, “After coming off an early season knee injury that kept her out for five (5) weeks, Ashlynn has provided us with exceptional goaltending, going 3-1-3, with her only loss against the Greater Vancouver Comets. In January, she allowed only one (1) goal in two (2) games against the Northern Capitals, stopping almost 70 shots in her two (2) wins. She is one of our most competitive players and has a strong presence in the dressing room, and is one of the first to help with team responsibilities and volunteers when asked by coaches.”
The FMAAA program consists of six (6) zone-based teams across the province – the Fraser Valley Rush, Greater Vancouver Comets, Kootenay Wild, Northern Capitals, Thompson-Okanagan Lakers, and Vancouver Island Seals. The teams play a 30 game regular season, followed by the playoffs. The FMAAA Champion has the opportunity to compete for the ESSO Cup, Hockey Canada's National Female Midget Championship, which will take place in Morden, Manitoba from April 23 - 29, 2017.
The FMAAA program was initiated in the 2007-2008 season in response to the membership’s desire to provide an opportunity for elite female hockey players to come together on zone teams to challenge other elite female Midget teams. The league has had more than 100 players move on to post-secondary hockey opportunities.
