Puck Drops on 2015-2016 MML Season

Friday, September 11, 2015

It’s time for some Major Midget hockey. The BC Major Midget League’s 220 game schedule starts this weekend, with several exciting matchups taking place around the province.

Ten (10) of the league’s eleven (11) teams will be in action this weekend: The defending champions, the Vancouver North East Chiefs, are in Kelowna taking on the Okanagan Rockets. The South Island Royals are facing the Greater Vancouver Canadians. The Vancouver North West Giants are in Nanaimo to play the North Island Silvertips. The Fraser Valley Thunderbirds made the trip up to Kamloops to play the Thompson Blazers. And the Valley West Hawks are in Prince George to take on the Cariboo Cougars, who have a new look to match their Western Hockey League (WHL) namesake, the Prince George Cougars.

The Chiefs will begin their title defense with several new faces, as forwards Caleb Fantillo (Medicine Hat Tigers) and Harris Pearce (Kootenay Ice) moved on to the WHL, while goaltender Liam McCloskey (Prince George Spruce Kings), defenseman Troy Robillard (Coquitlam Express), and forwards Kyle Johnson (Prince George Spruce Kings), Parker Colley (Prince George Spruce Kings), and Callum Volpe (Vernon Vipers) moved on to the Junior A ranks.

Next week, teams are set to meet in Richmond for the first of two (2) Showcase Weekends. Over the course of a 40 game season, teams will battle it out for a chance to represent British Columbia in the Pacific Regional Championship, and potentially a trip to the 2016 TELUS Cup in Quispamsis, New Brunswick.

The entire schedule for the 2015-2016 season is available online here. All 220 regular season games will be available to watch online on Play Full Screen.
