MML Recap – Week 10

The Vancouver North West Giants (12-4-2) and Valley West Hawks (12-5-1) are neck-and-neck for first place, with 26 and 25 points respectively. Catch up on all the action around the league with our Week 10 MML recap.

Okanagan Rockets vs. Thompson Blazers
Game 1: Okanagan 3, Thompson 0
Game 2: Okanagan 5, Thompson 1
The Rockets won both games over the Blazers, shutting them out in Game 1. Zach Erhardt, Jordan Todd, and Chase Stevenson scored for the Rockets in the winning effort. In Game 2, Jett Saharchuk scored for the Blazers, but it wasn’t enough to stifle the Rockets as they got five (5) goals from Stevenson (2), Alex Zawatsky (2), and Jacob Bourchier.
 
North Island Silvertips vs. Vancouver North East Chiefs
Game 1: North Island 2, Vancouver NE 4
Game 2: North Island 3, Vancouver NE 3
The Chiefs won Game 1 thanks to goals from Liam Evenson, Jessie Young, Ian MacDonald, and Brett Didyk. Dawson Heathcote and Tyler Sexton scored for the Silvertips. The teams tied Game 2, with Kyle Pow, Frank Dawson, and Heathcote scoring for North Island, while Logan Bromhead (3) and Didyk scored for Vancouver North East.
 
South Island Royals vs. Valley West Hawks
Game 1: South Island 1, Valley West 8
Game 2: South Island 5, Valley West 3
The Hawks showed off their offense in Game 1, with eight (8) different players scoring - Colten Gerlib, Justin De Vos, Mitch Savage, Justyn Gurney, Christian Bosa, Oliver Alcock, Carson Franklin, and Luka Burzan scoring for the Hawks. Lach Hadley scored the lone goal for the Royals. South Island bounced back in Game 2, scoring five (5) goals thanks to the efforts of Jarrett Malloch (3), Jordan Guiney, and Holden Cochrane. Ben Evanish, Christian Bosa, and Bobby Russel scored for the Hawks.
 
Kootenay Ice vs. Fraser Valley Thunderbirds
Game 1: Kootenay 2, Fraser Valley 5
Game 2: Kootenay 1, Fraser Valley 3
Fraser Valley took Game 1 thanks to goals from Jonathan Stein, Jake Mulder, Justin Hargrave, Jamie Housch, and Jonathan Rees. Shawn Campbell and Terrell Clarricoates scored for the Ice. In Game 2, Hunter Floris scored for the Ice, but it wasn’t enough as Jake Mulder, Mackenzie Wight, and Matthew Dyck scored for the Thunderbirds to lead them to a 3-1 win.
 
Vancouver North West Giants vs. Greater Vancouver Canadians
Game 1: Vancouver NW 4, Greater Vancouver 2
Game 2: Vancouver NW 3, Greater Vancouver 3
The Giants and Canadians played a home-and-home series, with Game 1 played at North Shore Winter Club and Game 2 played at the Richmond Oval. In Game 1, the Giants claimed a 4-2 win thanks to goals from Will Warm (2), Liam Kindree, and Justin Wilson, while Eric Bourhill and Matheson Kroeker scored for the Canadians. The teams tied Game 2 3-3, with Wilson, Kyle Kaufmann, and Liam Kindree scoring for the Giants, and Michael Matson, Chris Douglas, and EJ Shaw scoring for the Canadians.
 
The BC Hockey Major Midget League was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year olds an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the National Midget Championship.
