The Rockets and Cougars continued their hot starts, while there were plenty of close games around the province. Catch up on all the scores from around the Major Midget League with the Week 5 recap.
Kootenay Ice vs. Okanagan Rockets

The Rockets claimed both games in Trail, scoring a total of 12 goals over the course of the weekend. Okanagan started off strong, scoring three (3) goals in the first period of Game 1 (Tanner Bahm, Brandon Della Paolera, Chase Stevenson), but Kootenay responded with goals from DJ Horne and Aiden Jenner to make it a 3-2 game going into the second period. After a scoreless frame, the Rockets took over, with Rayman Bassi, Dylan Prpich, and Stevenson scoring in the third to make it a 6-2 game. In Game 2, it was all Rockets as Coleton Bilodeau, Garret Watson, Mitchell Gove, Max Kryski, Wyatt Head, and Stevenson scored. Simon Nemethy scored the lone goal for the Ice.
Cariboo Cougars vs. South Island Royals

Cariboo 3, South Island 0
The Cougars hosted the Royals in Prince George over the weekend, winning both games to stay atop the League standings. In Game 1, South Island’s Bryson Hines scored early, but Cariboo responded with four (4) unanswered goals from Devin Sutton, Reid Perepeluk, Joel Patsey, and Daine Dubois to take the win. In Game 2 the Royals were shutout as Tyler Maser, Mason Richey, and Patsey found the back of the net.
North Island Silvertips vs. Vancouver NW Giants

North Island 4, Vancouver NW 3
The Giants and Silvertips split their weekend series on the Island, as the Giants claimed Game 1 in Port Alberni and the Silvertips won on home ice in Nanaimo. In Game 1, the Giants went ahead 3-1 thanks to goals from Justin Fodchuk, Liam Kindree, and Cole Moberg. The Silvertips’ Keaton Mastrodonato scored in the first and Joshua Zary attempted to spark a comeback with two (2) goals in the third period, but it wasn’t enough as Kindree and Dom Davis scored to seal the game. In Game 2, the Silvertips were able to hold off the Giants as Zary, Jerzy Gus, Jared Winkel, and Will Norman scoring. Kindree and Hudson Schandor tallied goals for the Giants.
Vancouver NE Chiefs vs. Fraser Valley Thunderbirds

The Chiefs and Thunderbirds each won on home ice over their weekend series. Vancouver NE’s Arshdeep Bains opened the scoring early in Game 1, but the Thunderbirds got four (4) unanswered goals from Justin Plett (2), Baxter Anderson, and Brodi Stuart to claim the 4-1 win. In Game 2, it was the Thunderbirds’ Blake Bonnar who opened the scoring, but the Chiefs’ Sho Takai (2), Logan Bromhead, and Mitchell Booth scored four (4) unanswered goals to win 4-1.
Valley West Hawks vs. Greater Vancouver Canadians

Game 2: TBD
Greater Vancouver and Valley West played a back-and-forth game, with Valley West leading 2-0 early in the second period thanks to goals from Jonas Leas and Carson Franklin. Greater Vancouver’s Emerson Kostner and Radek Hewson scored in the second, but Valley West’s Mitch Savage scored to make it 3-2 heading into the final period. The Canadians eventually took over late in the third period, with Hunter Donohoe and Daniel Pearson scoring in the last five (5) minutes of the game to help Greater Vancouver to a 4-3 win. Game 2 will be played on Tuesday evening.
The BC Hockey Major Midget League was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year olds an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the TELUS Cup, Canada’s National Midget Championship.
