2007-2008 Major Midget League All-Star Game a Great Success

Thursday, January 03, 2008

More than 500 fans were treated to a high tempo game that saw Team White defeat Team Blue 9-2 at the BC Hockey Major Midget League All-Star Game. The game was played Tuesday afternoon at Minoru Arena in Richmond, BC.  Special guest Fin, the Vancouver Canucks mascot, showed up to high-five the players as they were introduced onto the ice and to visit with all of the enthusiastic spectators in the stands.

Three stars were selected with each receiving a gift.
1. Ryan Aynsley – Team White (Mission-Itech Skates)
2. Nick Buonassisi – Team Blue (VIP Vancouver Canucks Tickets)
3. Brett Connolly – Team White (Mission-Itech one piece hockey stick)

Brandon Regier, a forward with the Fraser Valley Bruins, and Linden Saip, a defenseman with the Greater Vancouver Canadians, were both selected for the All-Star Game but were unable to participate.  Regier had an opportunity to play with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL and Saip was out due to injury.  Also, because of a berth to the gold medal game of the Mac’s Midget Tournament in Alberta, six selected players and the head coach from the Vancouver North West Giants were unable to attend the All-Star Game.  These players are as follows:

  • Peter Alexander – Goalie
  • Matthew Hutchinson – Defense
  • Cole Gelley – Defense
  • Garett Milan – Forward
  • Jordan Weal – Forward
  • Chris Hoe – Forward
  • Jon Calvano – Head Coach

BC Hockey would like to thank the event sponsors for their support at this year’s event: Mission-Itech, BCHL, WHL, International Stage Lines, Freeze Frame Photography and the Vancouver Canucks Centre for BC Hockey.

The BC Hockey Major Midget League was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year olds an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the National Midget Championship.
