Coaching Announcements for Major and Minor Midget Teams

The Vancouver North East Chiefs of the BC Major Midget League (MML) has announced that Jeff Urekar (Vancouver) will take over the head coaching duties for the team replacing Jamie Jackson who has taken an opportunity with the Coquitlam Express of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL).

Urekar has been on the Chiefs’ staff as an assistant coach since 2014 and has also been involved as a coach with the Port Moody Amateur Minor Hockey Association (MHA) and North Vancouver MHA. 

A pair of head coaches have also been announced for the Minor Midget Program as Jim Camazzola (Coquitlam) will be the Vancouver North East Chiefs minor midget bench boss, while Travis Oddy (Abbotsford) with serve as the head coach for the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds’ Minor Midget Team.

Camazzola has been coaching for over 15 years including last season with the Burnaby Winter Club Bantam A1 team. He has coached the Simon Fraser University (SFU) men’s hockey team and had a 17-year professional career which included playing for Italy at the 1992 and 1994 Olympic Winter Games.  Oddy has been coaching with the Abbotsford MHA since completing his playing career with the Ridge Meadows Flames of the Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL). He is a former MML player with Fraser Valley.

The Minor Midget League gives an opportunity for 15 year-old players to develop with other athletes of the same age and is affiliated with the MML.

The MML was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year-old players n opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the TELUS Cup, Canada’s National Midget Championship.
