Chris Murray (Kamloops) has been named the inaugural head coach of the Thompson Blazers Minor Midget team.
Murray has vast experience in both coaching and playing hockey. He has been an assistant coach with the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League from 2014-2018 and has also coached with Kamloops Minor Hockey Association (MHA) and with the Valleyview Hockey Academy in Kamloops.
Prior to coaching, Murray was a professional hockey player from 1995-2002 including playing in 242 NHL games with the Montreal Canadiens, the Hartford Whalers, the Carolina Hurricanes, the Ottawa Senators, the Chicago Blackhawks and the Dallas Stars. Murray also played in the WHL with the Blazers, winning the Memorial Cup twice, in 1992 and 1994. Chris has been a firefighter since 2005 and a paramedic from 2002-2005.
Tanner Cochrane (Kamloops) will return for another season as head coach with the Thompson Blazers Major Midge League (MML) team.
The BC Hockey Minor Midget League will begin play in 2018-2019 and gives an opportunity for 15 year-old players to develop with other athletes of the same age and is affiliated with the MML.
