Gervais Named February Player of the Month
Thursday, March 09, 2017

BC Hockey announced that Jeremy Gervais of the Cariboo Cougars has been named the Major Midget League (MML) Player of the Month for February 2017. The 5’10” defenseman from Prince George, BC tallied two (2) goals and eight (8) assists for a total of 10 points in six (6) games last month.

Said Cougars Head Coach and General Manager Trevor Sprague, “Jeremy has displayed a lot of courage and character throughout the month of February. Unfortunately, a member of Jeremy's extended family has had to deal with some unexpected medical circumstances. Through this process, Jeremy has shown that his strong family values help to motivate him both on and off the ice. Jeremy has provided our team with an exemplary example of true service to his sport, family, and community. In trying times you are sure find a persons true character, and as a coaching staff we are proud of the way Jeremy has conducted himself, and how his conduct continues to motivate the people around him to be better.”

A prospect of the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) Prince George Cougars, Gervais led the League in scoring amongst blueliners, scoring a total of 49 points (15 goals, 34 asissts) in 37 games this season. The Cougars sat atop the League standings for the entire season, compiling a 34-5-1 record.

Gervais was chosen from a high-calibre list of other nominees, including: Justin Plett (Fraser Valley Thunderbirds), Sasha Mutala (Greater Vancouver Canadians), Sean Strange (South Island Royals), Matthew Facchinelli (Thompson Blazers), Kolby Matthews (Vancouver North East Chiefs), and Trevor Longo (Vancouver North West Giants).

The MML was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year olds an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the TELUS Cup, Canada’s National Midget Championship, which will take place April 24 – 30, 2017 in Prince George, BC.
