The invitation list includes 50 candidates for Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team and 30 candidates for Canada’s National Women’s Development Team. Both programs will participate in on and off-ice sessions, which will introduce and reiterate Hockey Canada’s expectations in areas such as nutrition, mental conditioning, physical fitness, testing, training, and other positive daily behaviours.

“Our strength and conditioning camp is an opportunity for us to further assess players we’ve targeted for the national team program, and this year, is a kick-off of our planning for the next quadrennial as we look to build the athlete pipeline to 2022 and beyond,” said Davidson. “The camp also plays an important role for the players who are given a much clearer picture of the expectations of a national team athlete, and a personalized pathway to give them the best opportunity to continue to be part of the national team program.”

Following the strength and conditioning camp, Hockey Canada scouts will continue to evaluate players at provincial camps, additional national team camps in August, and as they compete with their club and school teams at various provincial and national events, including the 2017 Esso Cup, Canada’s National Female Midget Championship, and both National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Canadian University (U Sports) competition.
