BC Hockey announced September 11, 2012 that the Fort St John Flyers will host the 2013 Savage Cup of the Senior Male AAA Championship. The best of five (5) series will take place March 21-25, 2013.
The winner of the Savage Cup will advance to the Allan Cup hosted by the Bentley Generals in Red Deer, Alberta starting April 15, 2013. Since a representative from Quebec will not be returning for the 2012-2013 season, the Host province will take their spot in the Allan Cup. This means there will be no playoff between Alberta and BC for the McKenzie Cup.
“With Bentley, Alberta hosting the 2013 Allan Cup, BC gets a bye into the championship,” said Mike Fraser, Divisional Director of BC Hockey. “It’s too bad that neither province has the opportunity to host a championship event like the McKenzie Cup this year, but we are excited that BC will host the Championship in 2014.”
This will mark the 100th year of the Savage Cup, which was first handed out to the Vancouver Rowing Club in the 1912-1913 season. Last year, the Powell River Regals beat out the Fort St. John Flyers to win the cup.
Six (6) teams from across Canada will play for the Allan Cup, the National championship for men’s senior AAA hockey. The cup has been won by teams from every province and the Yukon, as well as two (2) teams from the United States which played in Canadian leagues.
