The BC Hockey Female Under 18 High Performance Development and Selection Camp has been completed, and the 20 athletes who will form Team BC 2007 have been selected! The camp which ran from August 13-18 in Nanaimo, BC included four games and a number of on-ice and off-ice practice and fitness sessions.
The top 43 Under 18 female athletes in BC attended the camp which was intended to simulate the experience they would have at the national level. Team BC Head Coach Greg Hermiston described the camp as an undeniable effort from all players. It provided for a competitive week and was very much appreciated by the staff in attendance.
Hermiston feels they have selected a talented group of players and with the help of their Club Teams, their development will continue to grow, and they will be that much better come November when the puck drops at the National Women's Championships in Kitchener. These athletes had already come through two stages of the selection process, their own zone camps and the BC Cup held earlier in the year in Salmon Arm.

Team BC Director of Operations Cal Gruneruds states, “Now that the Evaluation process has been completed, and we have selected the 2007 U18 Team BC, I am looking forward to working with this group of players and their parents as we prepare for the National Championship in November. There will be much planning and organization to be completed before this team departs, but with the support of the parents and BC Hockey, we will be on time, prepared and ready for game day in Kitchener.”
Along with the selection of Team BC, the focus of the week was to continue to develop the athletes, to improve and test their fitness levels and to assist them in their long term training goals. The BC Hockey High Performance Staff was very impressed with the continual improvement in the area of fitness as well as the overall level of play. The attention the athletes are paying to their year round training programs is certainly paying off.
Team BC will compete in the Under 18 National Championship in Kitchener, Ontario November 7-11, 2007. Head Coach Greg Hermiston (Kamloops) noted one of the strengths of this year’s team is the depth at all positions. There are eleven returning players and a very strong group of new players added to the mix.
The BC Hockey Female Under 18 High Performance program is the final stage of the BC Hockey Female High Performance Program. Many of the athletes at this year’s camp are graduates of the Under 16 program where they were introduced to off-ice training methods as well as on-ice skills and tactics that assist them in their long term development.
