BC Hockey Regional Centre – Okanagan Grand Opening Weekend
Wednesday, September 13, 2017

The grand opening of the BC Hockey Regional Centre – Okanagan is taking place this weekend, September 15 – 17, 2017, at the Shaw Centre in Salmon Arm, BC.  The event starts at 4:00PM on Friday, September 15, 2017 with a ribbon cutting ceremony followed by a Hot Stove panel discussion.

BC Hockey Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Barry Petrachenko, BC Hockey Chair of the Board, Randy Henderson, and Salmon Arm Mayor, Nancy Cooper will be taking part in the ribbon cutting ceremony.

On Saturday, September 16, 2017 there are a few events for members and the public to be involved in.  Starting at 8:00AM, there is a female jamboree for girls aged 6-12, where the players will participate in team building activities, skills sessions and a couple non-competitive games.  The cost to attend is $125.  Click here for more information and registration.

From 1:30-4:00PM, two (2) development seminars are being held; one for coaching, the other officiating.  The Coach Development Seminar features:

Lead by BC Hockey Referee-in-Chief, Sean Raphael and Officiating Development Facilitator, Larry Krause, the Officiating Development Seminar will review updates to clinic material and the officiating program and also touch on the Mentorship Program and development initiative.

At 9:00AM on Sunday, September 17, 2017, there is a free “We Are Coaches” clinic for female coaches to obtain their Coach 2 – Coach Level certification.  Please email George Cochrane, Manager, Programs – Regional Centre at to register.


The purpose of opening the regional centre is to provide a focus on support for coach and officiating development and to supply administrative functions for BC Hockey program leaders in the region. The BC Hockey Regional Centre-Okanagan will act as a resource centre for the Okanagan Mainline minor hockey associations along with junior and senior teams and will help bridge the gap between administrative procedures at the district and branch level.
