Officiating - Summer School
BC Hockey offers Summer Officiating Schools in August of every year. A total of two schools are held each season. Locations are determined each winter.
Online registration will be available in late winter or early spring.
If you are looking for an opportunity to expand your knowledge of hockey officiating then the BC HockeySummerOfficiatingSchool will meet all your expectations. An ambitious program of instruction awaits you. Sign up early to avoid disappointment.
The school offers a curriculum that can be tailored to meet the needs of officials, varying from those preparing to officiate upper levels of competitive hockey to the recreational official, possibly new to the game and wishing basic instruction in a less formal atmosphere.
The school will be devoted entirely to the Hockey Canada Officiating Program material. A certification exam will be written on the final day for certification. Ice sessions and game supervision will be prepared using both BC Hockey and Hockey Canada procedures.
Both on-ice and off-ice activities will be designed to meet the needs of the registrants. Students may be grouped by age, ability or level of interest during the school to maximize success.
Eligibility
Any student wishing to register as a BC Hockey Official in the current season is welcome to attend. The minimum age is 12 years old and maximum age is 18 years old, on or before December of the current season.
Instruction
The Summer Officiating Schools are are operated under the direction of key individuals form the BC Hockey Referee Development Program. Instructors will include BC Hockey instructional staff, upper level officials and special guests.
Accommodation
Supervised dormitory accommodations are located approximately one block from the arena. All students are expected to stay in residence.
Meals
Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided daily.
Cost
Fees will be set each year. Some optional recreational activities may not be included. Fee does not include transportation to and from the school.
