Female Midget AAA Action from Weekend 3 of League Play

Thursday, November 19, 2009

The BC Hockey Female Midget AAA League entered the third weekend of league play this past weekend. The six (6) teams in the Female Midget AAA League travelled to the 100 Mile House, BC to play nine (9) games, November 13-15.

The Female Midget AAA league will use the same league play format for the 2009-10 season as they did last year. Each team will host a league play weekend whereby all the teams come together, similar to a tournament, at the same place one (1) weekend a month to play multiple league games against the other teams. This has been a measure adopted by the league to maximize playing time and to reduce travel and accommodation expense.

The following will provide a summary of the weekend’s action as well as updated league standings.

The first game of the weekend pitted the Vancouver Island Impact against the Vancouver Fusion. The Impact got off to a slow start and the Fusion capitalized scoring two (2) goals in the first period. The Impact fought back, but it was too little too late, Vancouver took the game 5-2. In the second game the Prince George Cougars took on the Kootenay Wildcats. After a scoreless first period the Wildcats opened a 2-0 lead mid-way through the second period. The Cougars cut the lead to one (1) before the period was over making it a 2-1 game heading into the third period. The Wildcat’s Lindsay Audia scored the game winning goal with 9:29 left in the period, the Wildcats went on to win 4-2.

The Fraser Valley Phantom took on the Vancouver Island Impact in the first game on the second day of play. The Phantom exploded for three (3) unanswered goals in the first period; all goals were scored by a different player. Unfazed the Impact fought back over the next 40 minutes and the game ended in a 3-3 tie. Alicia Archer had a great game for the Impact scoring the second goal for her team. In the second game of the day the Vancouver Fusion took on the Prince George Cougars. The Fusion scored early and often skating away with a 7-1 victory. Kyanna Prazma was the lone goal scorer for the Cougars. Paige Clarke picked up the win in net for the Fusion. The third game of the day pitted the Thompson-Okanagan Rockets against the Vancouver Island Impact. The Rocket’s Jordan Krause had an outstanding game finishing with one (1) goal and one (1) assist while making good decisions under pressure. The Rockets built a 7-0 lead after the first period and went on to win the game 9-2.

The first game of the afternoon on the second day of action saw the Prince George Cougars take on the Fraser Valley Phantom. The Cougars came out strong and improved on their defensive coverage from their earlier games. The Game ended 3-1 in favour of the Cougars. Megan Spooner was solid in net for the Cougars. The final game of the day had the Thompson-Okanagan Rockets taking on the Kootenay Wildcats. After a scoreless period the Rockets scored two (2) goals in the second to build a 2-0 lead. The game ended 4-1 for the Rockets. Ashley Fisher had a great game in net for the Rockets holding off the Wildcats fierce offensive attack.

The first game on the third day of play pitted the Kootenay Wildcats against the Vancouver Fusion. In an exciting tilt the game was tied in the final minutes of the play. With five (5) seconds left to play Lindsay Audia scored the game winner for the Wildcats capping off a great weekend. The final score was 5-4 for the Wildcats. The final game of the weekend saw the Fraser Valley Phantom tangle with the Thompson-Okanagan Rockets. The Phantom scored first, but after that it was all Rockets scoring seven (7) unanswered goals to pick up the win. All seven (7) goals for the Rockets were scored by a different player.
