Please be advised that the BC Hockey Female U18 selection process will undergo significant changes in the 2012 - 2013 season.
Open zone camps to identify players for the U18 BC Cup have been eliminated from the program at the U18 level. The camps will be replaced with a provincial evaluation system. Eligible players (1996 and 1997 birth years) will be evaluated by High Performance evaluators at the club team level throughout the season. BC Hockey High Performance evaluators will be attending games in the Female Midget AAA League, Hockey Academies, Female and integrated games as well as elite tournaments. BC players playing out of province are eligible for the High Performance program if their guardians are BC residents.
The U18 changes have been implemented because players at this level of the program have been evaluated for two years in the U16 program as well as tracking players throughout the years is seen as a more accurate assessment of their talents as compared to a weekend selection camp. In addition, the costs associated with the District selection camp can be significant where travel and accommodation is required. This process will also allow the High Performance program to increase the competitive environment at the U18 BC Cup as it will focus on the top 80 athletes.
Season long evaluation data will be tabulated and the top 80 players (8 Goalies, 24 Defence and 48 Forward) will be invited to a four team BC Cup to take May 2 to 5, 2013. The U18 BC Cup will be the first stage in the formation of Team BC which will participate in the National Women’s U18 Championships.
