BC Hockey announced that Naomi Choong of the Greater Vancouver Comets has been named the Female Midget AAA League (FMAAA) Player of the Month for December 2017. The 5’7” forward from Richmond, BC, tallied nine (9) points (2 goals, 7 assists) in seven (7) games in December, including registering at least one (1) point in every game in the month.
Choong, 16, has 18 goals and 13 assists for 31 points in 21 games this season, good for third overall in FMAAA scoring and second in league goals. Choong volunteers at the Hamilton Community Centre helping in their child care facility. She is currently enrolled at McNair Secondary School where she is an honour roll student and received the top business student award.
The FMAAA was initiated in the 2007-2008 season in response to the membership’s desire to provide an opportunity for elite female hockey players to come together on zone teams to challenge other elite female Midget teams. The league has had over 100 players move on to post-secondary hockey opportunities.
