History of the Cromie Memorial Cup

The Cromie Memorial Cup, emblematic of the U18 AAA Amateur Hockey Championship in British Columbia, was donated by Don Cromie in memory of his late father Robert J. Cromie. The Cromie family ran the Vancouver Sun for much of the 1900s, starting in 1917 when Robert rescued the paper from bankruptcy. He ran the paper until his death in 1936, after which his sons Don, Peter and Samuel took over the family business. As Vice President, Don sold the newspaper in 1964. The Cromie family left a legend in Vancouver that transcended their era.

Merritt, the 1938 Midget AAA Provincial champion, was the first team to have their name engraved on the Cromie Memorial Cup. When the BC Major Midget League formed in 2004, the Cromie Memorial Cup became the league's championship trophy.

Today, the trophy has been presented 79 times, including to the past 17 BCEHL U18 AAA Champions:

History of the Doug Grimston Memorial Trophy

Doug Grimston served as the president of the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association from 1950 to 1952. He served as the president of BC Hockey from 1942 to 1947, and also sat on the national committee to oversee minor hockey in Canada, fighting for transparency of finances in amateur hockey.

The Doug Grimston Memorial Trophy is awarded to the champion of the BCEHL's U15 AAA division, most recently the Greater Vancouver Canadians in the 2022-23 season.
