Ponak Named December 2014 Player of the Month

BC Hockey announced January 15, 2015 that Nic Ponak of the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds has been named the Major Midget League Player of the Month for December.  Ponak tallied five (5) goals, eight (8) assists, and just six (6) penalty minutes in six (6) league games during the month.
Ponak, a 6’2” forward from Abbotsford, has a total of 14 goals and 18 assists in 26 games this season. His Thunderbirds squad has a 10-14-4 record this season, placing them at eighth in the league.
Said Thunderbirds Head Coach Bill Grieve, “Nic is a great leader for the Thunderbirds in the dressing room and on the ice. He is a very determined, hardworking and talented player. His talent and great attitude continues to make him a role model for the team.”
Ponak was chosen from a high calibre list of nominees for this prestigious award.  The runners up in no particular order are as follows:

The BC Hockey Major Midget League was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year olds an opportunity to play within their own age group.  Playing at this high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the National Midget Championship.
