Edmonton Thunder Capture 2015 Female Midget Pacific Regional Championship
Saturday, April 4, 2015

The Edmonton Thunder captured the 2015 Female Midget Pacific Regional Championship with a 3-1 win over the Northern Cougars in the Game two (2) in the best of three (3) Regional Championship held in Edmonton, Alberta.  The Thunder will now represent the Pacific Region at the 2015 ESSO Cup that will be held in Red Deer, Alberta from April 19-25, 2015.

In game one (1), the Cougars had an explosive start to the game opening up a two (2) goal lead early in the first period.  The goal scorers were Caily Mellott and Jocelyn Forrest.  The Thunder were able to cut the lead to one (1) in the second period setting up a dramatic third.  With just over the six (6) minutes to go in the game the Thunder scored to tie the game at two (2) and overtime would needed.  The first and second overtime settled nothing, but it was the Thunder who would score in triple overtime for the 3-2 game one (1) win.

Like game one (1), the Cougars opened the scoring the first period with a marker from Hunter Mosher to take the early 1-0 led in game two (2).   Late in the first period, the Thunder scored to tie the game at one (1). The Thunder carried the momentum over and early in the second took a 2-1 lead.  The Cougars fought hard in the third, but were unable to score the equalizer.  The Thunder added one (1) late to pick up the 3-1 win.

The Female Midget AAA League was initiated in the 2007-2008 season in response to the membership’s desire to provide an opportunity for elite female hockey players to come together on zone teams to challenge other elite Female Midget teams.
