South Island Royals Staff Announcement
Wednesday, May 27, 2015
BC Hockey announced May 27, 2015 that Ron Lindsay (Victoria, BC) has been named the general manager and Trent Brandvold (Victoria, BC) has been named the head coach of the South Island Royals for the 2015-2016 Major Midget League (MML) season.
Lindsay has no shortage of hockey experience in Victoria, having served as a coach in the Victoria Minor Hockey Association from 1994 to 2003. Lindsay also has experience with junior teams, serving as a video coach/video assistant for the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League’s (VIJHL) Victoria Cougars (2003 – 2007), the British Columbia Hockey League’s (BCHL) Victoria Grizzlies (2007 – 2009), the South Island Royals (2010 – 2015), and the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) Victoria Royals (2011 – 2015).
Brandvold has coached in the Victoria area for the past 11 years, having spent time with the Juan de Fuca Minor Hockey Association (2009 – 2011), Victoria Racquet Club (2011 – 2012), as well as the Kerry Park Islanders (2012 – 2013) and Peninsula Panthers (2013 – 2014) of the VIJHL. Brandvold also has experience as a player, suiting up for the Central Hockey League’s (CHL) Corpus Christi Ice Rays (2002 – 2004) and Austin Ice Bats (2003 – 2004), as well as the East Coast Hockey League’s (ECHL) Victoria Salmon Kings (2004 – 2005).
The BC Hockey Major Midget League was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year olds an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the National Midget Championship.
