MML Recap – Week 13

The Valley West Hawks remain at the top of the standings with an 18-5-1 record and 37 points, while the Cariboo Cougars (15-6-3), Vancouver North West Giants (14-4-4) and Okanagan Rockets (14-7-2) also remain in the hunt. Catch up on all the action around the league with our Week 13 MML recap.
Greater Vancouver Canadians vs. Valley West Hawks
Game 1: Greater Vancouver 2, Valley West 5
Game 2: Greater Vancouver 1, Valley West 6
The Hawks and Canadians played a rare Friday night game in Langley, which saw the Hawks claim the win on home ice. Justyn Gurney, Christian Bosa, Luka Burzan, Michael Farren, and Bradley Stonnell scored for the Hawks, while Eric Bourhill and Chris Douglas scored for the Canadians. The Hawks took Game 2 6-1 in Richmond, thanks to goals from James Malm (2), Ben Evanish (2), Daniel Chifan, and Burzan. Noah Kelly scored the lone goal for Greater Vancouver.
Vancouver North West Giants vs. Fraser Valley Thunderbirds
Game 1: Vancouver NW 1, Fraser Valley 1
Game 2: Vancouver NW 5, Fraser Valley 5
The Giants and Thunderbirds also played a home-and-home series, with Game 1 in North Vancouver and Game 2 in Abbotsford. Game 1 resulted in a 1-1 tie, thanks to goals from Mitchell Williams (Vancouver NW) and Jamie Housch (Fraser Valley). Game 2 also ended in a tie, with Williams (2), Justin Wilson, Kyle Kaufmann, and Josh Latta scoring for the Giants, while Ryan Crosby-Jones, Brendan Black, Zac McKee, Kyle Davis, and Mackenzie Wight scored for the T-Birds.
Cariboo Cougars vs. North Island Silvertips
Game 1: Cariboo 8, North Island 2
Game 2: Cariboo 3, North Island 1
The Silvertips made the annual trip up to Prince George, where they faced a Cougars squad that has been gaining momentum in recent weeks. In Game 1, Cariboo tallied eight (8) goals thanks to the efforts of Riley Coish, Ty Kolle, Chase Dubois (2), Tyler Maser, Josh Mader, Jeremy Gervais, and Bryce Anderson. Keaton Mastrodonato and Robbie Davis scored for North Island. The ‘Tips managed to hold the Cougars to just three (3) goals but still lost 3-1. Mastrodonato scored the lone goal for North Island, while J. Maser (2) and Gervias scored for Cariboo.
Okanagan Rockets vs. South Island Royals
Game 1: Not played (rescheduled – TBA)
Game 2: Okanagan 1, South Island 1
Game 1 of the Rockets/Royals series was not played due to bus issues delaying South Island’s arrival in Kelowna. The game will be rescheduled and played at a later date. In Game 2, the teams skated to a 1-1 tie thanks to goals from Ted Brennan (South Island) and Shawn Guison (Okanagan).
Vancouver North East Chiefs vs. Thompson Blazers
Game 1: Vancouver NE 7, Thompson 1
Game 2: Vancouver NE 4, Thompson 4
Statistics for Games 1 and 2 were not available at the time of publishing.
The BC Hockey Major Midget League was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year olds an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the National Midget Championship.
