Burnaby Winter Club Ready for Western Canada Bantam Championships
Tuesday, March 29, 2016

The Burnaby Winter Club (BWC) Bantam team is the BC representative at the 2016 Western Canada Bantam Championship in Okotoks, Alberta starting on March 31, 2016.  Five (5) teams representing all four (4) western provinces compete in a round robin format and the top two (2) teams will advance to the championship final on Sunday, April 3, 2016.

BWC went 5-0 in the round robin at the BC Hockey Bantam Tier One (1) Championship to face North Shore Winter Club (NSWC), last year’s Western Canada Bantam Champion, in the final.  Joshua O’Keefe, Ryan Denny and Henry Rybinski each netted a goal for BWC to give them the 3-0 victory and became the BC Hockey Champions.

Burnaby starts the tournament on Thursday, March 31, 2016 against the Saskatchewan champion, Yorkton Xerox Terriers.  They will then take on the Alberta champion, Lethbridge Val Matteoti Golden Hawks on Friday and play two (2) games on Saturday against the Winnipeg Monarchs, the Manitoba Champion and the host, Rocky Mountain Raiders.  The bronze and gold medal games are scheduled on Sunday, April 3, 2016.

NSWC is the two (2) year reigning Western Canada Bantam Champion.  Last year marked the fourth championship in five (5) years for the BC representative.

The prestigious Western Canada Bantam Championship features elite level 13 and 14 year old male players in Western Canada, many of whom will be drafted in the upcoming 2016 Western Hockey League (WHL) Bantam Draft.
