BC Hockey Male High Performance Program Renamed Program of Excellence
Tuesday, November 29, 2016

BC Hockey announced on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 that the BC Hockey Male High Performance Program has been renamed the BC Hockey Program of Excellence (POE).  The change comes with a review of the previous programming and the vision to align elite programming alongside Hockey Canada’s POE.

The POE will move towards a greater focus on player development and will focus in five (5) key characteristic traits:

  • Development

  • Identification

  • Inclusion

  • Information Translation

  • Progression

The characteristic traits will identify with all aspects of the program and be the focal point moving forward.  These traits were developed by the Program Committee that oversees the POE.

“This is an exciting time for our program, and for the future of elite hockey in BC and the Yukon,” said BC Hockey Chief Executive Officer, Barry Petrachenko.  “Enhancing our alignment with Hockey Canada programs will only serve to improve development opportunities for our top players, and collectively these adjustments will put all of our program participants in the best possible position to achieve their goals.”

BC Hockey also announced the Program Leads for POE.  Personnel for the 2016-2017 season are:

The BC Hockey Male POE Program exposes players, coaches and officials to short term competition.  Through player development, identification, inclusion, information translation and progression, athletes are prepared for the next stage.  The BC Hockey Male POE acts as a precursor to the Hockey Canada POE Program, which is used to identify and train players and team personnel for regional and national teams.
