BC Hockey announced the schedule for the 2017-2018 BC Female Midget AAA League (FMAAA) season. The season officially launches on October 6, 2017 with a Showcase Weekend at the Surrey Sport and Leisure Centre in Surrey, BC.
FMAAA Schedule
The first Showcase Weekend will be held in conjunction with BC Hockey’s World Girls Hockey Weekend celebration, October 6 – 8, 2017. A second Showcase Weekend will be held in January 2018.
The season concludes on March 4, 2018 with the playoff battle for the BC FMAAA Championship beginning on March 9, 2018 and the championship series starting on March 23, 2018. The Pacific Regional Championship will be hosted in BC from April 6 – 8, 2018, where the BC FMAAA Champion will take on the Alberta Female Hockey League (AFHL) Champion to determine the Pacific representative at the ESSO Cup, Canada’s National Female Midget Championship. The 2018 ESSO Cup will take place April 21 – 29, 2018 in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia.
The Greater Vancouver Comets captured the 2017 FMAAA Championship with a best of three (3) series win over the Northern Capitals. The Comets then faced the St. Albert Slash (AMMFHL) in the Pacific Regional Championship in St. Albert, Alberta where they fell short in their hope of advancing to the ESSO Cup.
The FMAAA was initiated in the 2007-2008 season in response to the membership’s desire to provide an opportunity for elite female hockey players to come together on zone teams to challenge other elite female Midget teams. The league has had over 100 players move on to post-secondary hockey opportunities.
