The Canadian Tire Wickenheiser World Female Hockey Festival (WickFest) starts tonight in Surrey, BC. This special weekend is the dream of six (6)-time Olympian Hayley Wickenheiser. This will be the tenth WickFest and is held in partnership with the City of Surrey and the Surrey Falcons Female Minor Hockey Association (MHA). The event will feature more than 800 female hockey players from around North America who have the opportunity to participate in world class competition, make new friends and learn skills from the best-of-the best, including Wickenheiser, bobsledder Kaillie Humphries, Olympic hero Meghan Agosta and many more.

“The BC Hockey Board of Directors is committed to a strategy of growing female participation in hockey and we view WickFest as playing a key role in achieving this goal,” said BC Hockey Chief Executive Officer, Barry Petrachenko.  “We would like to congratulate and thank Hayley, the organizing committee, the City of Surrey and Surrey Falcons Female MHA for their commitment and dedication to this festival and we look forward to a fantastic event.”

"BC has always had a special place in my heart after the 2010 Winter Olympic Games and the emotion surrounding our gold medal win here, so it's so nice to be back in the Lower Mainland and to see how much growth there has been in the female game,” says Hayley Wickenheiser.

The festival will welcome more than 48 teams from across Canada and the United States and features skills development sessions for players from Atom to Midget ages, a para hockey showcase and a Novice showcase hosted by the Surrey Female Falcons. It all kicks off with an opening party tonight followed by three (3) days of events and games at both the Surrey Sport and Leisure Centre and Newton Arena.
