Cariboo Cougars Crowned MML Playoff Champions
Wednesday, March 26, 2008

The Cariboo Cougars are the 2008 BC Hockey Major Midget League Playoff Champions!  The Cougars swept the Okanagan Rockets in the best-of-three game series by scores of 5-1 and 4-3 over this past weekend.

“The sun is shinning and the snow is melting up here in Prince George,” said the Cariboo Cougars head coach Grant Williams with excitement referring to the playoff season being synonymous with spring weather.

Williams admitted that his team was a little sluggish on the Friday night game against the Rockets but played much better on Saturday night.

“This series was a great statement for Major Midget League Hockey here in BC.  There was unbelievable fan support for both teams in Kelowna and these fans were treated with two highly entertaining games,” stated Williams.

The Cougars now move on to the Pacific Regional’s where they will be taking on the Alberta representatives in Calgary, AB April 4-6.  The Alberta team has yet to be determined.  The winner of this Pacific Regional series will go on to compete for the coveted Telus Cup in Arnprior, Ontario April 21-27, 2008.

When asked how the Cougars will be preparing for the upcoming Pacific Regional’s Williams said that “we will have to be magicians and juggle the players around the Under 17 camps happening this weekend.  We will not always have a full team at practice.  Our main goal is to peek the player’s emotions by the time we leave for Alberta next Thursday”.

BC Hockey congratulates the Cariboo Cougars on becoming the Major Midget League Champions and wishes them luck at the Pacific Regional’s!

The BC Hockey Major Midget League was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year olds an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the National Midget Championship.
