BC Hockey announced the schedules for the Male U16 and Female U18 Provincial Camps being held in Shawnigan Lake. The Female U18 Provincial Camp goes July 25 – 28, 2019, while the Male U16 Provincial Camp takes place July 29 – August 3, 2019.
The Provincial Camps are a weekend camp where Team BC shortlisted players begin work on team concepts, training and prepare for the national competition. The camp is based on the national program and the focus will be on developing player’s strength, conditioning, fitness, and nutrition. Throughout the camp players are evaluated on their play, their fitness/strength, their attitude and their perceived contribution to a winning team.
Players attending the Provincial Camps were selected following the Male BC Cup that took place in Salmon Arm and the Female Midget AAA (FMAAA)/U16/U18 Program of Excellence (POE) Open Camps.
Following the Provincial Camps, selected female athletes will advance to the September preparation Camp, September 19 – 22, 2019 in Vancouver for possible participation on the Team BC that will compete at the 2019 National Women’s U18 Championship in November 2019. On the male side, selected athletes will be named to Team BC for competition at the 2019 Western Hockey League (WHL) Cup.
BC Hockey’s Female U18 level is the third and final stage of the Program of Excellence (POE). It is an opportunity for the top players in the Province to train and compete at an elite level and is meant to introduce players to the beginning of the Hockey Canada POE.
