Each month during the regular season, players from each BC Hockey league are recognized for their outstanding work ethic, performance and commitment to safety as Player of the Month.
Major Midget League
Dylan Wightman (Okanagan Rockets) was recently named the captain of the Rockets as he consistently is a person and player who does things right on and off the ice. Through the month of October, he was the most consistent player and is currently one (1) point behind the league leader in scoring.
In the community, Dylan works with the Kelowna Minor Hockey Association (MHA) coaching the Pee Wee Rec Whalers and is also involved with the Kelowna Library Okanagan Rockets Reading Program.
His exemplary play, approach and attitude have made him the MML Player of the Month.
Female Midget AAA League
Hailey Maurice (Fraser Valley Rush) is a natural leader and leading by example she has the ability to motivate her teammates. She was named assistant captain this year and has worked hard with the other leadership members to build team spirit and commitment.
She is working with the team to identify and support a charity for the season and at school Hailey is involved in the leadership program and works with children whenever she has the opportunity. She does all this while maintaining a 3.5 grade point average (GPA).
After spending much of last season fighting an illness, Hailey entered this season with the determination to work her hardest, be a leader and support the team in every way she can.
She has had an excellent start to the season, including a five (5) goal performance in October, making her the FMAAA Player of the Month.
Minor Midget League
Austin Roest (Okanagan Rockets) has started the season very strong and is getting better every week as he settles into his first year Midget. He is averaging 2.5 points per game (PPG), leading the MML15 at this point.
He is also leading the Rockets both on and off the ice. His play in all three (3) zones, in all situations and his understanding of the game allows him to excel at this level. He is a affiliate player with the MML Rockets and has played a pair of games with them and scored his first MML goal.
Austin volunteers with the Reading with Rockets program, a program where the players read to young children.
His exemplary play, approach and attitude, both towards the game - in practice and games - and in general, make him the recipient of the MML15 Player of the Month.
Major Bantam League
Remy Quintoro (Greater Vancouver Canadians) is a good teammate and has been a gamer all season.
He posted a 5 - 0 record at the beginning of the season, including leading the Greater Vancouver Canadians to a championship at the Major Bantam Invitational Tournament.
Remi also posted an impressive 0.69 goals against average, including two (2) shutouts. He has excelled with a talented team that currently sits second in the league standings.
