Saanichton, B.C. – BC Hockey is excited to announce the roster for our Program of Excellence’s (POE) U16 Team BC.
Team BC will have their sights set on hoisting the WHL Cup, as the team prepares to travel to Red Deer to participate in the 2021 WHL Cup on October 20-24, 2021. The final roster consists of two goaltenders, six defencemen, and 12 forwards from across British Columbia and Yukon. The full roster can be viewed here.
“It was a difficult process getting the roster down to 20 players as it was a battle at all positions,” Commissioner of BC Hockey’s Program of Excellence Fred Zweep said. “We are excited to see this group of players compete in Red Deer, and they will be great representatives of B.C. and Yukon.”
As is the tradition at the WHL Cup, Team BC will be competing against provincial teams from Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. The teams will battle it out for the tournament’s top spot, and at the same time players will be looking to turn the heads of the many scouts expected to be in attendance. The 2021 WHL Prospect Draft, is scheduled for Thursday, December 9, 2021, and the WHL Cup will provide scouts with the best opportunity to evaluate this draft class due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Team BC will be led by Head Coach Jamie Jackson. He was the bench boss in the last WHL Cup (2019) when Team BC claimed the bronze medal. He will be joined by assistant coaches Jeff Urekar and Ayrton Nikkel.
The tournament opens with Team BC taking on Saskatchewan on Wednesday, Oct. 20. The other games for Team BC in the round robin portion of the tournament are versus Manitoba on Thursday, Oct. 21 and against Alberta on the Friday, Oct. 22. The semi-finals and finals will occur over the weekend. For full tournament details click here.
