2009 Major Midget League All Star Game
Friday, January 23, 2009

BC Hockey announced today that the 2009 Major Midget League All Star Game will be played Friday, February 20 at the Sungod Arena in Delta, BC with puck drop at 7 pm.  The Major Midget League All Star Game will have the top 40 players in league come together to participate in this ever growing game.  The selected players and coaching staff will be announced next week.

A new component has been added to the game this year as a skills competition will be held during the first and second intermission.  The skills competition will consist of hardest shot, fastest skater, puck handling/skating agility and a shoot out challenge.

The game will also be broadcast live this year by Delta Cable – Eastlink Communications.  In addition to being broadcast locally, fans of the game can watch the webcast on both the BC Hockey website and Sportswave ( ).  Tune in at 6:45 pm on February 20 for pre-game interviews and an update on the game followed by puck drop at 7 pm.

“I am extremely excited for the upcoming Major Midget League All Star event as it is considered one of the league’s premier events and it is very well attend,” said Major Midget League Managing Director Chris Erhart.  “It provides BC Hockey an opportunity to showcase the elite level midget players the province has to offer.”

The Major Midget League All Star Game has had a number of top players play in this game over the years.  Colton Teubert and Evander Kane participated in the 2007 game and this past December they helped lead Team Canada to a gold medal at the 2009 World Junior Championship in Ottawa.  Jordan Weal and Brett Connolly played in the 2008 All Star Game and each played a key role on the Silver Medal winning Team Pacific at the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge.

The BC Hockey Major Midget League was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year olds an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey.  These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the National Midget Championship.
