Nine Major Midget Players Selected in the 2009 NHL Draft

The 2009 NHL Entry Draft was held this past Friday and Saturday in Montreal with nine (9) former Major Midget League players being drafted.  The following players were drafted Evander Kane, Landon Ferraro, Stefan Elliott, Ryan Howse, Adam Morrison, Tyler Shattock, Spencer Bennett, Cam Reid and Curtis Gedig.
Kane from Vancouver, BC was selected fourth overall to the Atlanta Thrashers.  Evander was a former member of the Greater Vancouver Canadians.
Ferraro from Trail, BC was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the second round 32nd overall.  Landon played for the Vancouver North West Giants.
Elliott a native of Vancouver, BC was drafted 49th overall to the Colorado Avalanche.  Stefan played for the Vancouver North West Giants in the 2006-2007 season.
Howse from Prince George, BC was drafted by the Calgary Flames 74th overall.  Ryan was a former member of the Cariboo Cougars.
Morrison originally from Edmonton, AB played for the Greater Vancouver Canadians and the Valley West Hawks of the MML.  Adam was drafted 81st overall to the Philadelphia Flyers.
Shattock from Vernon, BC was drafted 108th overall to the St. Louis Blues.  Tyler played for the Thompson Blazers.
Bennett from White Rock, BC was selected 141th overall to the Calgary Flames.  Spencer played for the Valley West Hawks.
Reid from Delta, BC was drafted by the Nashville Predators 192 overall.  Cam played for the Greater Vancouver Canadians.
Gedig from Penticton, BC was drafted 204th overall to the New Jersey Devils.  Curtis is a former member of the Okanagan Rockets.

The BC Hockey Major Midget League was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year olds an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the National Midget Championship.
