BC Hockey announced today the 22 players short listed for the 2010 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge. The evaluation process of the short listed players will begin at the start of the 2009-10 season and last until mid November when the team staff selects 11 players from BC to represent one half of Team Pacific. The selected BC players will join the 11 players from Alberta, to form the 2010 version of Team Pacific.
The selected players were evaluated during the 2009 BC Hockey’s Male Under 17 Provincial Development Camp held from July 27 to August 1, at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.
The Provincial Development camp included on-ice training, off-ice testing, fitness sessions and a number team building activities. The camp was hi-lighted by the 2009 Ted Hargreaves Memorial Cup, which is a highly contested 3-game series between Team Canucks and Team Leafs. Team Canucks swept the three (3) game series.
The participants of the BC Hockey Male U17 High Performance Provincial Development Camp have now completed the first stage of Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence. The objective of the program is to introduce players and coaches to world international style competition and IIHF playing rules. This program assists with the identification and training of players and coaches for the National Under 18 Team, National Junior Team and the Canadian Olympic Team.
