The Valley West Hawks (25-6-1, 51 points) and Cariboo Cougars (24-7-3, 51 points) remain tied at the top of the standings with just a few weeks of regular season play left. Catch up on all the action around the league with our Week 18 recap.
Okanagan Rockets vs. South Island Royals
Game 1: Okanagan 4, South Island 0
The Rockets and Royals played one (1) make-up game due to transportation issues during their series earlier this season. The Royals arrived in Kelowna Friday night before heading to Kamloops to take on the Blazers. The Rockets came out firing, with Danny Gatenby scoring less than 20 seconds into the first period. Jordan Todd scored just a minute into the second period, and both Benjamin Dietrich-Scammell and Powell Connor scored in the third period to make it 4-0 for the Rockets.
Thompson Blazers vs. South Island Royals
Game 1: Thompson 1, South Island 2
Game 2: Thompson 3, South Island 2
The Royals came out on top in Game 1, thanks to two (2) goals from Jack Kendall. Ryan Chyzowski scored the lone goal for the Blazers. The Blazers bounced back in Game 2, getting goals from Chyzowski, Peter Grimm, and Brendan Mongey. Jordan Guiney and Joe Stafford-Veale scored for the Royals.
Fraser Valley Thunderbirds vs. Valley West Hawks
Game 1: Fraser Valley 2, Valley West 6
Game 2: Fraser Valley 1, Valley West 5
The Thunderbirds and Hawks played a home-and-home series, and Valley West once again showed off their offense. In Game 1, Ilijah Colina, Justyn Gurney, Josh Bruce, Ian Ross, Christian Bosa, and Daniel Chifan scored for the Hawks, while Logan Hunter and Andrew Sorensen scored for the Thunderbirds. In Game 2, Justin Plett scored the lone goal for the Thunderbirds, while Colina, Gurney, James Malm, Kabir Gill, and Luka Burzan scored for the Hawks.
Cariboo Cougars vs. Kootenay Ice
Game 1: Cariboo 8, Kootenay 1
Game 2: Cariboo 8, Kootenay 2
The Ice made the trip to Prince George for their series against the Cougars, and the Cougars tallied eight (8) goals in both games. In Game 1, Devin Sutton (2), Trey Thomas (2), Riley Coish, Jeremy Gervais, Jesse Pomeroy, and Ethan O’Rourke scored for the Cougars, while Bradley Ross scored for the Ice. In Game 2, Sutton (2), Thomas (2), Chris Jandric, Ty Kolle, Mason Richey, and Tyler Maser scored for the Cougars, while Hunter Floris and Bradley Ross scored for the Ice.
Okanagan Rockets vs. Greater Vancouver Canadians
Game 1: Okanagan 4, Greater Vancouver 0
Game 2: Okanagan 3, Greater Vancouver 3
Cole Demers got the shutout in Game 1, and Seth Barton, Lucas Cullen, Alec Zawatsky, and Cody Shiavon scored for the Rockets to get the 4-0 win in Game 1. The teams tied in Game 2, with Letwin, Brennan Gaytmenn, and Tyson Lin scoring for Greater Vancouver, and Hayden Dick (2) and Hayden Courtney scoring for Okanagan.
Vancouver North West Giants vs. Vancouver North East Chiefs
Game 1: Vancouver NW 2, Vancouver NE 0
Game 2: Vancouver NW 4, Vancouver NE 1
The series between the Giants and Chiefs proved to be a close one, but the Giants prevailed in both games. In Game 1, Jack Graham and Mitchell Williams scored for the Giants and Beck Warm got the shutout for the 2-0 win. Statistics from Game 2 were not available at the time of publishing.
The BC Hockey Major Midget League was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year olds an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the National Midget Championship.
