BC Winter Games Rosters Announced
Friday, January 22, 2010
BC Hockey announced today the rosters for the 2010 BC Winter Games. The BC Winter Games will be held in Terrace, BC from March 4-7, 2010. The BC Winter Games take place every second season.
Open tryout camps were held from January 2-4, 2010 in eight (8) zones across BC. The objective of these camps was to train and develop up and coming female players in High Performance principles. Twenty players from each camp were selected to represent their zone at BC Winter Games.
In 2008 a change was made to Ice Hockey participation at the BC Winter Games.  Male Hockey was dropped from the 2010 event in Terrace as the U16 BC Cup was a more favorable option for Under 16 Male High Performance players.  The 2008 games in Kimberly/Cranbrook also marked the last time Female U18 players would be participating in the event.  Beginning in 2010 Zone Teams will be selected from the Female U16 Zone Tryout Camps.
“The local organizing committee in Terrace is gearing up for the Terrace 2010 BC Winter Games. The venues are settled, the sport chairs are well into the planning stages and hundreds of volunteers are already hard at work preparing to host more than 1,900 athletes from across BC March 4-7,” said Michelle Taylor, Terrace 2010 BC Winter Games Operations Manager.  “With 18 sports including Hockey - Female, this premier sporting event will showcase the best of BC's amateur athletes.”
The BC Hockey Female U16 program has been designed to instruct and prepare the players for future opportunities in the Female High Performance Program.  The BC Winter Games will host the most talented 14-15 year old female players in BC, and prepare them for the next step in their developmental process.
