Watch Team Canada West Win Gold at the World Junior A Challenge on TSN
Thursday, November 16, 2006

BC Hockey would like to congratulate Team Canada West on their gold-medal finish at the inaugural World Junior A Challenge on November 12 in Yorkton, SK. The game will be broadcast on TSN this Saturday, November 18. Check local listings for times.

Canada West and Canada East battled past Belarus, Russia, Germany and Slovakia to meet in the gold medal game. Canada West took a convincing 4-0 lead, keeping Canada East off the boards until 19:35 of the second period. Canada East would chip in two more goals during the third frame but couldn’t catch Canada West.

Canada West picked up two goals from Jordie Johnston and a goal each from Tyler McNeely and Casey Pierro-Zabotel. Canada East’s goals were scored by David Kostuch (two) and Jeff Terminesi.

Players currently playing in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan are brought together to form team Canada West. Seven of those players are from BC and play on BC Hockey League teams. Three staff members are also from BC. Tyler McNeely of Burnaby, BC was named team captain.

In addition, linesman Chris Sweeting was selected to work the World Junior A Challenge and was assigned to the Gold Medal Game.

The Bronze Medal Game was decided in a shootout with Russia claiming a 2-1 victory over Slovakia.
