The U16 Western Branch Challenge is a round robin format tournament consisting of the four western branches: BC Hockey, Hockey Alberta, Saskatchewan Hockey Association and Hockey Manitoba. The final game is determined based on the round robin standings.
Hayduk has been involved extensively in hockey and with the BC Hockey High Performance Program for several years. He has served as Head Coach, Assistant Coach, and Evaluator in both the U16 and U17 High Performance Programs, and was the Video Coach for Team BC who won the gold medal at the 2011 Canada Winter Games in Halifax, NS.
Crossan has been involved with the Male High Performance Program at the U16 and U17 levels. He was the Head Coach of the 2010 U17 BC Cup Champions, and served as a scout for the Western Hockey League’s Chilliwack Bruins.
Thornton has been involved with the Male U16 High Performance Program as both a Manager and Assistant Coach. He serves as Assistant Coach for the Major Midget League Vancouver Canadians during the season.
The Male Under 16 Program was designed by BC Hockey to instruct and prepare High Performance players for future opportunities in the BC Hockey High Performance Program. Open Zone Camps are held in March for players 15 years or younger. From each zone, 20 players are selected to compete in the jamboree style U16 BC Cup. A jamboree style tournament is when the 20 players selected from each zone are mixed together to form the 10 teams.
