The BC Hockey Male Under 16 Provincial Camp is set to begin today in Penticton at the South Okanagan Event Centre and will run from June 30 – July 4, 2011. The five (5) day camp will include on and off-ice activities, and will introduce high performance athletes to the most up to date information and concepts as they relate to both National and International levels of hockey.
The 70 players invited to attend the camp were selected based on performances at the U16 BC Cup that was held in Kamloops, BC from April 27 – May 1, 2011.
Based on performance at the Provincial Camp, 20 players will be selected to Team BC which will compete at the Western Branch Challenge in Moose Jaw, SK from October 28-31, 2011.
The BC Hockey High Performance Under 16 Program is designed as an introduction to BC Hockey’s High Performance Program, exposing players, coaches and officials to short term competition. The U16 Program also acts as a precursor to the BC Hockey High Performance U17 Program, which is used to identify and train players and team personnel for Provincial, Regional and National Teams.
Also taking place in Penticton this weekend is the NCCP High Performance I Certification Seminar. The five (5) day seminar runs from June 29 – July 4, 2011, and will combine the theory of coaching with the on-ice application of coaching by integrating the seminar with the Male U16 Provincial Camp.
In addition to classroom lectures and tasks, the selected coaches will coordinate and execute on-ice sessions and participate on the bench, in game situations. The NCCP High Performance I coaches will be guided by some of the best instructors within BC and Canada.
The NCCP High Performance I Seminar is held every two (2) years in BC and is open to coaches who
are actively coaching, or have the intention of coaching Midget AAA (MML) or higher, and have significant coaching experience. For more information on the seminar refer to the BC Hockey website.
