Hockey Canada announced July 25, 2011 a list of players invited to attend the Canadian National Women’s Under-18 Summer Selection Camp that will be held at the Canadian International Hockey Academy in Rockland, ON August 7 - 14, 2011. BC-born Jordan Krause (Kelowna, BC), Kimberly Newell (Burnaby, BC) and Julia McKinnon (Kelowna, BC) were selected to attend the camp.
Krause currently plays for the Pursuit of Excellence. She has won four (4) BC Provincial gold medals in 2006, 2008, 2009, and 2010, and most recently represented Team BC in the 2011 Canada Games in Halifax, NS.
Newell currently plays for the Burnaby Winter Club. Some of her most recent accomplishments include placing third in the 2010 Western Canadian Bantam AAA Championship, and representing Team BC in the 2011 Canada Games.
McKinnon currently plays for the Ontario Hockey Academy. She is a four (4) time BC Provincial Hockey Champion, and was the provincial top scorer in the 2009/2010 season. She was also Team BC’s top scorer at the 2011 Canada Games.
Invitations were made based on performance at the Strength and Conditioning Camp that was held in Hamilton, ON from May 25-29, 2011. Players were also evaluated by Hockey Canada regional scouts throughout the 2010-2011 season.
The week-long camp will consist of breaking down the 40 players into two teams, Red and White, and putting them through several practices and intersquad games. The selection camp will be used to select 22 players to participate in a three-game series against the United States’ Women’s Under 18 Team that will be held August 18 – 21, 2011 in Rockland, ON.
Following the camp, Hockey Canada scouts and coaching staff will continue to evaluate players with their club teams during the 2011-2012 season, in order to make selections for the team that will represent Canada at the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey Under 18 Women’s World Championship, which will be held in January in the Czech Republic.
