Team Flyers Win U17 CCM BC CUP

The U17 CCM BC Cup concluded in Salmon Arm with Team Flyers winning the BC Cup. The 2007 CCM BC Cup competition, hosted by the Salmon Arm Sunwave Centre from April 25-29, was a tremendous success in which BC's top 120 players born in 1991 showcased their talent to program evaluators and spectators from across the province.

In the championship game, Team Flyers defeated Team Maple Leafs by a score of 4-1. Team Flyers finished the competition undefeated with a 4-0 record. Staff for Team Flyers was lead by the Okanagan which included: Head Coach Jody Graham (Penticton), Assistant Coach Aaron Hoffman (Vernon), Manager Jason Hollenback (Penticton), Trainer Dale Woods (Kelowna) and Coach Mentor Tim Kehler (Trail).

The CCM BC Cup represents the second stage in the talent identification and training of players born in 1991 for the BC Hockey High Performance U17 Program. In a few weeks, the names of the top 46 players will be announced for the U17 Provincial Camp held in Nanaimo, BC, July 23-29.  18 players will be short listed from the summer camp for potential participation representing Team Pacific at the 2008 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge.  Of the 18 short listed players 11 players will be selected and announced November 15th to join 11 selected players from Alberta to form Team Pacific 2008.

The Regional U17 Hockey Program is the first stage in Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence. The objective of this program is to introduce players and coaches to world international style competition and IIHF playing rules. This program assists with the identification and training of players and coaches for the National Under 18 Team, National Junior Team and the Canadian Olympic Team. 

The BC Hockey High Performance U17 Program is under the direction of Shannon Bell, BC Hockey Officer at Large, and Rob Rogers, BC Hockey Male High Performance Coordinator.
