Wednesday, May 20, 2015
BC Hockey announced May 19, 2015 that Leland Mack (Port Moody, BC) has been named the head coach for the Male Under 16 Team BC that will compete at the 2015 Western Branch Challenge Cup. Joining Mack are director of operations Marty Floris (Vanderhoof, BC), assistant coaches Jamie Fiset (Langley, BC) and Eric Blais (Kelowna, BC), video coach Kevin Craig (Victoria, BC) and trainer Brynn Bicknell (Victoria, BC).
Mack has been the head coach of the Burnaby Winter Club’s Elite 15 Academy Program since the 2013-2014 season. He previously coached the Greater Vancouver Canadians of the BC Major Midget League (MML) from 2009 to 2013. Mack also served as an assistant coach for Team BC at the 2013 Western Branch Challenge Cup.
Floris has served as a coach for various teams in the Vanderhoof Minor Hockey Association for more than a decade. He has nine (9) years of experience in BC Hockey’s Male High Performance Program, and has served as the U16 BC Cup Camp Manager for the past two (2) years. He also won the Male High Performance Award last year for his dedication to the program.
Fiset served as the head coach of the Pacific Junior Hockey League’s Ridge Meadows Flames, and served as Team BC’s goaltending coach during the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George, BC. He has been involved with the Male High Performance Program for more than 10 years.
Blais is a coach for several teams within the Kelowna Minor Hockey Association, and served as an assistant coach for Team BC at the 2015 Canada Winter Games.
Craig has been both a head coach and an assistant coach for the Victoria Racquet Club. He has been a part of the Male High Performance Program for six (6) years, working at both regional camps and the BC Cup.
Finally, Bicknell has served as a trainer for the Burnaby Winter Club and the Saanich Braves of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League. She has been involved with the Male High Performance Program for three (3) years and is a graduate of Camosun College’s Athletic and Exercise Therapy program.
The BC Hockey Male High Performance Program was introduced in 1980 with the mandate to systematically identify and train the province's elite-level players for high performance hockey events. The overall objective of the program is to increase the chances of athletes from BC to compete provincially, regionally, nationally and internationally with the ultimate goal being selected to Hockey Canada’s National Junior or National Senior Team.
