2015 Male U16 Provincial Camp
Monday, July 13, 2015

The BC Hockey Male U16 Provincial Camp is set to begin on July 15, 2015 at the Nanaimo Ice Centre in Nanaimo, BC.  The five (5) day camp runs until Sunday, July 19, 2015 and will include on and off-ice activities that will introduce these high performance athletes to the most up to date information and concepts as they relate to both national and international levels of hockey.

Provincial Camp Information (schedule and rosters)

Austin Chorney (Abbotsford, BC) has been recently added to the Penguins roster.

This year, BC Hockey has partnered with the Western Hockey League (WHL) to have the players participate in on and off-ice WHL Combine Testing with state-of-the-art equipment designed by Sport Testing Inc.  The testing is designed to assist high level minor hockey players with their skill development and provide exposure to the WHL.  After being tested, players are given access to an extensive online database with WHL tested players.  Players can then compare themselves against other players to see where they rank while at the same time using their individual test scores to make adjustments to their own training and skill development.

The 45 players invited to attend the camp were selected based on performances at the U16 BC Cup that was held in Salmon Arm, BC from April 22 – 26, 2015.  Based on performance at the Provincial Camp, 20 players will be selected to Team BC which will compete at the 2015 Western Branch Challenge this fall against Team Alberta, Team Saskatchewan and Team Manitoba.

Some notable players that have participated in the Male U16 program include:

  • Sam Reinhart – Kootenay Ice – Buffalo Sabres
  • Curtis Lazar – Edmonton Oil Kings – Ottawa Senators
  • Nic Petan – Portland Winterhawks – Winnipeg Jets

The BC Hockey High Performance Under 16 Program is designed as an introduction to BC Hockey’s High Performance Program, exposing players, coaches and officials to short term competition. The U16 Program also acts as a precursor to the BC Hockey High Performance U17 Program, which is used to identify and train players and team personnel for Provincial, Regional and National Teams.
