Hockey Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Hockey League (CHL), announced the 22 young Canadians that will represent their country at the 2015 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup, August 10-15, 2015 in Breclav, Czech Republic and Bratislava, Slovakia.  Among those selected are three (3) BC players.

The roster was selected following a five (5) day selection camp that included daily practices and three (3) Red/White intrasquad games during Hockey Canada’s National Teams’ Summer Showcase at the Markin MacPhail Center in Calgary, Alberta.

“Growing up everybody dreams of this moment.  Right now I’m pretty excited,” said Fabbro. “Being able to go overseas and represent your country is something special.  It’s a huge honor and I am looking forward to it.”

“I can’t say how excited I am.  I was speechless when I found out. Anytime you get to represent your country and throw on the maple leaf is a huge honor,” Jost commented.   “I’m excited to go overseas with such a great group of guys.”

“It’s surreal.  It’s one of those feelings you get that ties knots in your stomach throwing that jersey over your shoulders,” Malenstyn said.  “It’s a cool experience.”

Canada has won the annual summer under-18 tournament seven consecutive years, and has won 19 of 24 tournaments since 1991. It will play in Group A in Breclav with Czech Republic, Sweden and Switzerland. Group B, which consists of Finland, Russia, Slovakia and the United States, will play out of Bratislava.

Canada will face Slovakia in a pre-tournament game in Trnava, Slovakia on Saturday, August 8 before opening the tournament against the Czech Republic on Monday, August 10, 2015. The top two teams from each group advance to the semifinals on Friday, August 14, 2015 with the gold medal game scheduled for Saturday, August 15 2015.
