Team BC lost the battle of East vs. West at the U18 Women’s National Championship Thursday, losing their preliminary round game against Team Atlantic 2-1.
BC opened the scoring early in the game, with defenseman
Olivia Knowles (Campbell River, BC) scoring off a hard wrist shot from the point on a power play, less than five (5) minutes into the first period.
Team Atlantic, composed of athletes from the four (4) Atlantic provinces of Newfoundland & Labrador, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia, responded before the first period ended, with Brette Pettet scoring on a top-shelf wrister.
Atlantic scored once more in the second period on a shot that slipped through
Morgan Skinner’s (Victoria, BC) pads. Team Atlantic was able to hold on for the remainder of the game to get the 2-1 win.
Team Atlantic’s netminder Shelby Ryan stopped 26 of 27 shots for a .963 save percentage, earning Player of the Game honours for her team.
Courtney Vorster (Richmond, BC) was awarded Player of the Game Honours for Team BC. Skinner allowed two (2) goals on 15 shots.
